Phoenix Mercury (+210) at Seattle Storm (-6.5) | O/U 162.5 (-110/-110)
Skylar Diggins-Smith has gone over this number in three of her last four games with this long exception catching the hook with an even 16 points against the stalwart Connecticut Sun defense. It is worth noting she collected 18 points in 36 minutes two days later in the very same hostile Mohegan Sun Arena. Diggins-Smith is 5-4 vs. this number since the Olympic break but has scored at least 16 points in seven of those games and has only failed to reach 15 points in one of those games.
In her last four games, she has gone over this number three times and all four of those games were against the aforementioned Sun and New York Liberty, the two best scoring defenses in the W. Conversely, tonight she faces a Mercury scoring defense that is third worst in the WNBA.
Phoenix’s defense was suspect when they were playing well and it has been even worse during their recent swoon. Five of their last six opponents have scored at least 80 points, while three of their last four opponents have scored at least 89 including Las Vegas’ 97 in this same arena last Sunday. Phoenix isn’t stopping anyone let alone someone executing on the level Diggins-Smith is right now.
Since the break, she is averaging 18.7 points per game, a full 4.1 points above her season average. Bet accordingly as Diggins-Smith will lead the Storm surge in Seattle tonight.
WNBA Pick: Skylar Diggins-Smith Over 16.5 Points (+106)
