Players will have to deal with wet conditions on day 2 as well as having to handle news off the course: the fatal traffic accident this morning and Scottie Scheffler’s arrest.

Rory McIlory took us by surprise by filing for divorce from wife Erica Stoll on Monday. Could he continue to take the golfing world by storm by winning the 2024 PGA Championship the following one? The weather forecast for the week at Valhalla Golf Club just outside Louisville, Kentucky suggests the McIlory, Scottie Scheffler and Co may have to do some overtime.
Practice days disrupted by inclement weather

ToggleThis year will be the fourth time the tournament has been played at Valhalla but the first it was moved on the calendar to May five years ago. And the switch away from August means a greater chance of rain and subsequent delays, which has already happened on this week’s practice days.

On Tuesday, a heavy downpour led not only to players being taken off the course for a short period, but also to pre-tournament interviews being briefly suspended. More, lighter rain didn’t disrupt play further but serves as a reminder that there’s a chance we could be in for another stop-start major after the Masters at Augusta was disrupted by inclement weather just a few weeks ago.
The forecast for the days ahead doesn’t look great, and there looks to be a chance you’ll have to take Monday off if you want to follow the action.

You are probably thinking that there are a lot of mentions of “showers” and “thunderstorms” in there, which suggests it’s not going to be an easy day for tournament organisers, or those of us who want to watch McIlroy, Scheffler and the rest do their thing.
