The Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has announced the appointment of Stephanie Peacock as its Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State.
Peacock had previously served as the Shadow Minister for Sport, Gambling and Media when the Conservative party was in power, but after Labour’s landslide election win last week, she will now take up this new role.
Stuart Andrew was previously Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Sport, Gambling and Civil Society, serving as the Gambling Minister.
This announcement will likely see Peacock taking up the role of Gambling Minister where she will likely play a key role in overseeing changes related to the White Paper including the Gambling Commission’s and Betting and Gaming Council’s (BGC) new rules, such as the frictionless financial risk assessment pilot test, among a number of other areas.
Peacock said in a tweet on her X (formerly Twitter) page: “It is an honour to have been asked by the Prime Minister to serve in our new Labour Government.
“Can’t wait to get started in the @DCMS with @lisanandy.”
Both Andrew and Peacock were in attendance at the BGC’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) back in February which covered a range of issues and where Peacock explained that the White Paper would be taken forward “regardless” of what the general election results would be.
