Mecca Bingo has held its first cross-channel slots tournament in Luton, Bedfordshire, bringing in slot players from both online and retail locations.
Sponsored by Blueprint Gaming, the tournament began with a series of qualifying rounds, leaving the final 16 contenders to take part in the grand final. Consisting of eight online and eight retail players, players competed for a win share of £25,000 ($31,905), with a top prize of £10,000 for the winner.
The winner of the £10,000 prize, Andrew Thorpe, said: “The whole night was surreal, I expected to go out in the first round as I’m not usually that lucky! Just getting to the final was amazing.”
On the event, Meccabingo.com Head Robert Lee said: “It was great to see players from across the country come together to experience the joy of what Mecca has to offer… A special thanks to our tournament sponsors, Blueprint Gaming and of course a huge congratulations to our Slots champion, Andrew. We look forward to hosting our next tournament very soon.”
Blueprint Gaming Account Manager Jack Lawson added: “It was a pleasure to be involved with and sponsor the Mecca Bingo Slots Tournament 2024 in Luton… We’re very much looking forward to showcasing more of our product portfolio at events in the future.”
The event is one of several new products and events rolled out by Mecca Bingo so far this year. In January the legacy bingo company launched Spingo, a combination of spin classes and bingo at its retail locations. In April the operator also launched free line dancing classes at its venues, accounting for recent interest in ‘Cowboy Core’ in the UK.
Earlier this month, Mecca Bingo also partnered with ITV to create digital Loose Women-themed scratchcards, based on the popular morning talk show. We spoke to Mecca Bingo Head of PR and Social Media Mark Cheevers in the June issue on Trafficology on the brand’s history of partnerships with celebrities and taking on the new challenge of navigating influencer marketing.
