Now, Genius Sports holds 41 licences across North America, with several sports betting operators now in the process of gaining online gambling licences from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.
Mark Locke, CEO of Genius Sports, said of the new licence award: “We are honoured that the Massachusetts Gaming Commission has awarded Genius Sports its temporary sports wagering vendor authorisation, to provide licensed sportsbooks with access to our exclusive NFL wagering products and media solutions.
“As an ever-expanding number of US states legalise sports betting, Genius Sports welcomes the opportunity to work with states like Massachusetts on providing sports fans with official sports data-powered solutions to power their sportsbooks.”
Similarly, Sportradar was also granted a temporary licence in Massachusetts earlier this week – meanwhile, BetMGM officially launched its retail sports betting arm with the BetMGM Sportsbook at the MGM Springfield.
Springfield Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Boston hockey legend Ray Bourque placed the state’s first wager at the BetMGM Sportsbook & Lounge.
The Bay State is home to some of the US’s most successful sporting franchises, including the New England Patriots, Boston Celtics, the Boston Bruins and the Boston Red Sox – all of which have won major sporting titles in their history.
So, the launch of sports betting is expected to be huge in Massachusetts – a place known for its avid sporting fans.
